Real effect of the 8 U.S. Attorney firings.

The allegation is that these eight U.S. Attorneys were fired for going after too many Republicans or not going after democrats. By proxy, that would mean that the other 85 USA's did a sufficient job of politicizing their offices and perverting the justice system.

If true, this would be the prime issue at stake in this whole issue.

Well now a Study shows that Democrats are 7x more likely than Republicans to be investigated by U.S. Attorneys.

Admittedly the data is a bit rudimentary, (a fair minded analysis of the can be found here) but unfortunately the Justice Department claims they don't keep that kind of data. But don't worry, I'm sure Alberto Gonzalez and the the rest of his lackeys from Pat Robertson's "Law" School would never even allow a partisan thought to enter their minds.

The Economist tries to expain away the descrepency here, but her theory seems to be refuted by one of her commenters.

Andrew Sullivan gives his thoughts here.
